Set in a former 1874 hotel, this chill bar & eatery features seafood & steak, plus porch seating in Beach Haven. Buckalew’s General Manager and Owner, Allan Menegus, a South Jersey native, culinary school graduate, and ardent fisherman, brought his energy and culinary creativity to the kitchen, and subsequently to the entire enterprise; and with a penchant for using sustainable ingredients and an insistence on consistency of quality, he supplemented the fresh seafood and great tomato pies, great steaks and chops, traditional comfort food, vegetarian and vegan dishes and gluten free pizza.

Frank Panzone Jr and his wife Joyce opened Panzone’s Pizza in Beach Haven on May 13th 1980. They converted a small building on the corner of 11th St and the Boulevard from an ice cream store to a pizza shop. The building soon had a fresh coat of bright yellow paint and green trim, cement was poured and picnic tables were placed outside under a yellow awning. Patrons ordered their food through a takeout window, Panzone’s quickly became a popular spot for pizzas, huge steak sandwiches and hoagies. It was the place to go for late night munchies and was open until 3am every night. In 1984 Panzone’s expanded to the north end of the Island and opened Panzone’s Pizza in Surf City at 22nd St and Long Beach Blvd. The Beach Haven location was ready to expand by 1987 and Frank Panzone Jr built a full service restaurant adding pasta to his already famous menu. The new restaurant, Panzone’s Pizza & Pasta opened for Memorial Day weekend that year. The original location remained and became known as the Slice Shop still serving pizza from the takeout window. In 1998 the Slice Shop was torn down to make way for an expansion to Panzone’s Pizza & Pasta. Generations of families have been dining at Panzone’s. Frank Panzone Jr. made his pizza famous on Long Beach Island.
We are a seasonal business located in Schooner’s Wharf that serves up ice cream, blended ice coffees, sundaes and the like. Also on hand are fresh-cut french fries, hot dogs, chicken, baked potatoes, pizza, funnel cakes and other treats such as fried Oreos.
Located in Beach Haven Terrace on LBI, the Beach House Restaurant is a place to enjoy fresh seafood, pastas and more. a place to bring a bottle of wine and catch up with friends. a place for a romantic dinner for two or a night out for a family of six. a place where you feel instantly at ease in flip flops or heels. a place that feels like coming home.
Built in the late 1940’s as a hamburger stand, our building at 81st Street in Beach Haven Crest has withstood all that Mother Nature has had to offer. For 25 years it has been the site of Tony’s Pizza, and in 1090 became the first site of Joeys’ Pizza & Pasta’s. The truth of the matter is that it is one of the lowest laying buildings on LBI.
The water that sometimes accumulates outside, and sometimes surrounds the building, is the result of being at such a low sea level. As you may know, the island storm drains are connected directly to the bay, so if the tide is high and it rains, there is no place for the water to go. Instead the water backs up through the storm drain and settles in the street. There have been times during hurricanes and Nor’easters when the tides have raisen so much that the outside of the building and the streets have flooded…without a single drop of rain.
Because of our “water issue,” our building has been featured in magazines, newspapers, and TV Newscast in both New York and Philadelphia. It might be the most popular building on LBI! So gather your friends, and come by for lunch or dinner. If it starts to rain, you just might be treated to some “Occasional Waterfront Dining.”
