Frank Panzone Jr and his wife Joyce opened Panzone’s Pizza in Beach Haven on May 13th 1980. They converted a small building on the corner of 11th St and the Boulevard from an ice cream store to a pizza shop. The building soon had a fresh coat of bright yellow paint and green trim, cement was poured and picnic tables were placed outside under a yellow awning. Patrons ordered their food through a takeout window, Panzone’s quickly became a popular spot for pizzas, huge steak sandwiches and hoagies. It was the place to go for late night munchies and was open until 3am every night. In 1984 Panzone’s expanded to the north end of the Island and opened Panzone’s Pizza in Surf City at 22nd St and Long Beach Blvd. The Beach Haven location was ready to expand by 1987 and Frank Panzone Jr built a full service restaurant adding pasta to his already famous menu. The new restaurant, Panzone’s Pizza & Pasta opened for Memorial Day weekend that year. The original location remained and became known as the Slice Shop still serving pizza from the takeout window. In 1998 the Slice Shop was torn down to make way for an expansion to Panzone’s Pizza & Pasta. Generations of families have been dining at Panzone’s. Frank Panzone Jr. made his pizza famous on Long Beach Island.

Wally’s has been a family-owned and operated Surf City breakfast and lunch landmark for over 40 years–and that tradition continues with the recent change in ownership. The Tomkos and their extended family have been enjoying their summer home and Surf City’s beach for over a decade. The idea of some day owning and operating Wally’s (previously known as Wally Mitchell’s) was bandied about for many years while sitting on the beach at the end of 8th Street. In October 2014, the stars aligned and it became a reality!
Woodie’s Too is more than a simple hamburger joint. Our menu includes hot dogs, chicken parmesan, pizza, crab cakes, shrimp, flounder, filet mignon and – Bob’s personal favorite – lobster tails.
Officially, we have 37 different types of hamburgers – everything from a Peanut Butter burger (pretty self-explanatory) to a Maui burger (which comes with grilled and sliced pineapple, sour cream, teriyaki sauce with bacon optional) to an Islander burger (sour cream, barbecue sauce, bacon and cheddar cheese). Each burger is a half-pound (our cook’s weigh each one) and the meat is brought in fresh every day, never frozen.
Seating for 100 inside and another 10 outside. Come and enjoy some great food in a casual, cozy atmosphere. 1950s and ’60s music sets the mood and the smell of fresh burgers on the grill wafting through the air round out the experience for a fun, family-friendly meal.

With a seasonal location in Surf City, and a year-round restaurant in Barnegat, Shore Fire Grille’s menu offers something for everyone. Gluten-free options such as their crabcakes also are available. It doesn’t require a special occasion to dine at Shore Fire Grille. All you need is a couple bucks in your pocket and excitement about a good meal. Popular starters such as potato planks, fried pickles and the nacho platter. But their main focus is burgers.
Burgers at Shore Fire Grille are not only made from beef. Salmon patties are made from fresh salmon and fresh dill, crab cakes are homemade and tuna caught right off of Long Beach Island is used in another burger. Scallops, shrimp and Mahi-mahi are all possible choices.
Wings also are a huge seller.
Sides such as onion rings are made from fresh, sliced, white onions, hand-dipped in beer batter; baked apples from fresh apple; and steak fries are hand-cut then baked and grilled to order, not fried, so they are never greasy. Mac and cheese and cornbread are perennial favorites.
Cole slaw is made with a “cool sauce,” a mayonnaise-less, cilantro-lime-cream sauce, also served with their smoked poppers and items on the burger bar.
BBQ is done differently, too. It begins as the “low and slow” traditional dry rub made with seven to 14 ingredients, an array of different flavors to go with different meats, cooked as tender as can be, yet flavorful, too
Shore Fire Grille features an open kitchen, a product of the layout of a former Chinese restaurant and the inclination of the chef.
With everything so clean and fresh and basically done to order, it’s great that you can look in the kitchen and actually see your meal being made.
