Science Saturday at the LBIF: Twice the Turtles

$5Dr. John Wnek, Project Terrapin, MATES Academy is Bringing Twice the Turtles to the Long Beach Island Foundation. Learn what we can do to help conserve diamondback terrapins at Barnegat Bay despite environmental changes. This program will examine the habitat requirements of diamondback terrapins especially marsh systems and shorelines areas.
We will discuss strategies to protect shorelines and to improve nesting areas for terrapins. This program will offer solutions and ways for people to get involved. We will have a family program earlier which will features hands-on lessons and live turtles.
Science Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. featuring “Turtles and Terrapins at Barnegat Bay Family Program.” You will get up close and personal, meet and greet turtles and terrapins who call our waters and marshland home. The program will have audience participation in a turtle egg to adult survival activity.
At 11 a.m. in a discussion format, “Diamondback Terrapins at Barnegat Bay: 13 Years of Lessons Learned and How You Can Get Involved!” Learn about research initiatives with diamondback terrapins at Barnegat Bay and conservation programs throughout the area. You will be introduced to live terrapins as we discuss our new terrapin sighting project.
LBIF members are free, otherwise they ask for a $5 donation per person.
