Be On LBI Time: Sprinting, Science, Diving and Comedy this Weekend

squarebeonlbi_logoHey there all of you LBI lovers! As we creep ever closer to Memorial Day weekend and our unofficial kick-off to the summer season, Long Beach Island continues to boast more open businesses, as well as additional cultural and educational opportunities.

This weekend in particular, some of those opportunities take center stage, alongside some other recreational and community events which are also scheduled.

On Friday night, the NJ Maritime Museum is hosting a presentation, “Where Divers Dive” at 7 p.m. The presentation, which is Sold Out, is a panel discussion from six divers – Steve Gatto, Joe Mazraani, Tom Packer, Brad Sheard, Eric Takajian and Anthony Tedeschi – who all share a long-running and deep passion for the ocean and its historical treasures. This group collectively possesses decades of deep, offshore wreck search and exploration experience that resulted in finding many shipwrecks off the new England, New York and New Jersey coasts.

Though the event is sold out, we wanted to share it with you in order to bring a greater awareness to the types of offerings which exist on LBI.

Fancy yourself a runner or walker? Then there’s still time to register for the Ship Bottom Sprint for Life. The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Ship Bottom Boat Ramp at 10th Street and the Bay.

On Saturday at 11 a.m. the public is welcome to head down to Loveladies for this week’s Science Saturday presentation. This week focuses on the Mordecai Island Land Trust. Learn about the diversity of the island’s abundant plants, wildlife, and surrounding marine life and Mordecai Land Trust’s effort’s to preserve them. Learn about the use of rib mussels on oysters to create living shoreline reefs on the island, our projects to build and maintain lost land mass with the help of USACE and NJDEP partnerships, and our ongoing collaborations with ReClam the Bay.

Finally on Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m., the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting its Comedy Night Fundraiser. The evening also includes dinner.

Whether you’re a resident, or just here for the day or the entire weekend, there’s plenty to do and see that allows you to Be On LBI Time.

See you soon!
