Be On LBI Time: Staying Cool on the Sandbar

squarebeonlbi_logoGreetings to all you LBI lovers out there! It’s set to be another hot weekend on our 18 miles of Island, but with so many cool events going on, you’re bound to have an awesome time with the family. Here’s a look of what’s happening over the next few days on our sandbar:

Thursday:

Kayak Demonstration: Have you ever wanted to learn how to kayak? If so, come out to Bayview Park this today, July 21st at 12 p.m. for a kayak demonstration presented by Long Beach Township Sustainability Coordinator Angela Andersen. She’ll show you the ins-and-outs of a kayak expedition, and also discuss stewardship of the bay. Perfect for families, adventurous souls, or both!

Fashion, Films and Fun: A Hot Time in Holgate: Spend your Thursday night gazing at some of the best shore fashion, while eating great food and listening to live music. This free event will be at the Holgate Parking Lot this tonight, July 21st, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come on down and enjoy food from Bowker’s Deli, fashion from Farias, A Lovely Universe and Tulia’s Boutique—all the while listening to DJ Meatball!

Friday:

ReClam the Bay Demonstration: ReClam the Bay is a non-profit environmental involvement organization that promotes substantiating Barnegat Bay intervention. Come out and see a live demonstration on how they help shellfish grow on Friday, July 22nd at 10th Street & Bayview Avenue, Barnegat Light, starting at 11 a.m. This is a perfect event for the young skippers out there!

Long Beach Township Beach Patrol Mayor’s Cup Tournament: On Friday, July 22nd and Saturday, July 23rd, come out to 68th St. in Brant Beach at 6 p.m. to watch all the lifeguards of Long Beach Township compete for the Mayor’s cup! This is the 33rd annual tournament, and it is sure to be a memorable one with the entire beach patrol competing for the prize. We hope to see you there!

Saturday:

Fine Arts Festival at the LBIF: This event, which takes place both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the LBIF in Loveladies is under the directorship of Paragon Fine Art Festivals, one of America’s premier organizers of fine art events, the LBIF Fine Art Festival weaves an exquisite tapestry of handmade original artwork from the talents of more than 80 local, regional and national artisans. Choose from original works in painting, photography, sculpture, metalwork, digital art and mixed media. Discover exquisite work in jewelry, glass, ceramics, woodworking – and much more. Lighthouse Night Climb: The Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park will be hosting a lighthouse night climb at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 23rd. This event is perfect for families and photographers, as it provides stunning sunset views of Barnegat Light. This is the last night climb of the season, and you won’t want to miss it!

Sunday:

Free Concerts in Bayview Park: On every Sunday during the season, Bayview Park will be hosting a live musician from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This week, come out for and watch Brian Eastburn perform. Bring the kids, soak up the sun, and listen to some great, local music.

Monday:

Surf City Farmers Market: The Surf City Farmers Market will be held on Monday, July 25th, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Surf City Fire Company parking lot. Rain or shine, come and get a taste of the best local, organic produce that the Jersey Shore has to offer, and explore many artisan crafts made by locals. With different vendors each week, the farmers market is bound to have something for everyone.

Since it’s going to be another hot one, make sure to take advantage of the free, air-conditioned LBI Shuttles! Not only will they give you a break from the sweltering sun, but they will also take you anywhere you desire on our 18 mile strip of paradise—just flag one down and enjoy the ride.
