It was a beautiful day for a Fleet Blessing

blessing of the fleetHappy Monday all of you fabulous LBI lovers and welcome to another beautiful week on the island!

First we’d like to say a very happy Father’s Day to all of the beach dads who spent their day on these great 18 miles. We hope your day was full of sunshine, warmth, and maybe even some great time on the boat.

Speaking of boats, yesterday Barnegat Light hosted its annual Blessing of the Fleet. Many members of the LBI community gathered in front of the Miss Barnegat Light to share in prayer with participants, including Mayor of Barnegat Light, Kirk Larson and Reverend Don Turner, the Rector of Saint Peter’s Church, to bless the men and women who venture out into the waters to bring back the harvest of the sea.

After opening remarks by the event coordinator, Rick Reynolds, the event followed with readings and prayers from speakers including Reverend Phillip Harkey, Reverend John Frambes, Reverend William McGowan, and Rabbi Michael Jay.

It was a beautiful scene with the boats floating on bright blue water, the Coast Guard standing strong in front, and the sea of friends and families gathered to support another great season filled with even better catch!

Before the event came to a close the boats filled with people and set off around the inlet. And with that, a prefect start to the fishing season had begun.

There’s always a great celebration to be found on LBI. Make sure you take some time to come down and take a taste of some delicious catch for yourself!

Until next time LBI lovers!
