FAQs Answered: Planning a Safe Trip to Long Beach Island!

Getting the most out of your summer vacation might feel tricky this year, but we have answers to some of your Frequently Asked Questions to help make your next great visit to LBI, a safe one too! Read below for more information on these popular questions… and some August Events!

Question: Is LBI “open?”

Yes! At this time, the beaches are open to the public (social distancing and beach badges required), shops are open for business across the island, events that are still occurring have been transformed into a socially distanced version, and restaurants are slinging fresh seafood and classic LBI fare outdoors – under tents, umbrellas, sun shades, and other temporary structures for al fresco dining. Masks are required any time you are in a public space or within 6ft of another party.

Question: I need more information of the number of COVID cases in your area before I decide to visit. Where can I obtain this information?

Please visit the website of the Long Beach Island Health Department here, and click on their “COVID-19” tab for LBI and Ocean County data resources.

Question: How do I get around on LBI? How does the LBI Shuttle work?

You can drive, walk, or bike on Long Beach Island. We also have a shuttle service that runs from 10am-9pm daily.

How the shuttle works: You can view the shuttle tracker here or download the app on the website to easily track the shuttles. Once you see one, simply waive down the driver. Masks are required when on the shuttle at all times and standing will not be allowed. There is a one way $2.00 fee until 7pm, and a $5.00 fee after 7pm. You can also purchase a $125 season pass.

Parking: There is Free Street Parking available on Long Beach Island.

Remember: Bike with traffic, walk against traffic (so you can see vehicles coming).

Question: I am confused about the layout of Long Beach Island… Could you explain where each town is, in relation to the bridge?

Barnegat Light is just about 9 miles north, once you cross the last bridge to the island. This is the northernmost town on LBI.

Harvey Cedars is just about 5 miles north, once you cross the last bridge to the island.

Surf City is just about 1 mile north, once you cross the last bridge to the island.

Ship Bottom is the town you are in as soon as you cross the last bridge. It extends a bit north and south of the entrance to the island, with most of this town on the south side of the bridge.

Beach Haven is just about 7.5 miles south, once you cross the last bridge to the island.

Long Beach Township has different sections across LBI that are not all consecutive. Your rental could be located in High Bar Harbor (about 8.7 miles north of Ship Bottom), Loveladies (about 6.5 miles north of Ship Bottom), North Beach (about 3 miles north of Ship Bottom), Brant Beach (about 2 miles south of Ship Bottom), Beach Haven Crest (about 3.5 miles south of Ship Bottom), Spray Beach (about 6 miles south of Ship Bottom), Holgate (about 9.5 miles south of Ship Bottom), or a number or other areas.

Question: I’m coming from out-of-state. What is the deal with NJ’s 14-Day quarantine?

This question depends on where you are coming from. The following states fall under NJ’s travel advisory:

Updated 7/28: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Click here for more information and updates.

What does this mean for travelers planning to visit LBI from one of these states?

Travelers and residents returning from one of the above states should self-quarantine for 14 days. Individuals should only leave the place of self-quarantine to seek medical care/treatment or to obtain food and other essential items. The self-quarantine is voluntary, but compliance is expected (Information adapted from the NJ State Website).
